Is It Safe to Have Sex During IVF Treatment?




According to research, sex during IVF treatment has likely to improve pregnancy rates. There is nothing unsafe having sex during IVF treatment. But during the treatment, many women experienced the enlarged ovaries can make women uncomfortable during sex or less interested to do that. Ovarian stimulation stage: In this stage, the doctor evaluates your uterus and fallopian tubes to make sure no problem require any surgery. Many women will take medicine for the ovaries stimulation for an average of 10-11 days. Unprotected sex is not recommended in this stage as sperms may carry bacteria. Ejaculation for at least 4 days should be avoided before the retrieval of eggs.

Egg retrieval stage: Egg retrieval is performed surgically. The eggs are placed and cultured in an incubator until insemination. Doctors recommended to stay away from unprotected sex or to use any jelly or lubricants because chances of infection are very high.

Embryo transfer stage: Sexual intercourse is not recommended in this stage at least for two weeks, you can resume after consulting your doctor. The pelvic rest is recommended which gives the embryo an average time to get implanted into the uterine wall.

Pregnancy Stage: If your partner gets pregnant then sex does not affect your baby but still avoid the unprotected sex. There are some cases such as anterior placenta and pre-term labor pain, intercourse is not recommended.
