Why do IVF fail?
Nowadays, Infertility has become a matter of concern in developing countries like India. Infertility is mainly defined as when a woman is unable to get pregnant despite all the efforts.
If a childless couple is unable to have a child despite all the treatments, they are referred to a specialist in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). IVF can also fail for many reasons. Doctors see the reasons for the failure of IVF as medical and non-medical reasons.
The reasons for the failure of IVF
1. Low quality of egg
The quality of a woman's egg has importance in the treatment of IVF. The quality of the egg decrease as the age of the woman increases. It can be a reason for IVF failure.
2. Low quality of sperms
Another reason for the failure of IVF treatment is the low quality of sperms. If sperm count in a man's semen or the motility of sperm is low, the sperm cannot survive for long in the semen. In such a situation, the chances of failure of IVF treatment increase.
3. Poor Quality of Fertilized Embryos
In IVF treatment, a woman's egg is fertilized with a man's sperm in a lab. If this fertilized embryo is not good in quality, it becomes the reason for the failure of this treatment. In such a situation, doctors use a healthy donor embryo to implant in the uterus.
4. Failure of the fertilization process
For IVF treatment, even if there is a defect or mistake in the fertilization process, this treatment can still be unsuccessful.
5. Degeneration of the uterine lining
In IVF treatment, the embryo is fertilized outside the uterus and then placed in the uterus. But sometimes the lining of the uterus (endometrial) is not normal but thin. This reduces the receptivity of the uterus and the fertilized embryo fails to implant properly in the uterus.
6. Chromosomal problems
Even if there is an error in the chromosomes of males and females the success percentage of IVF treatment drops significantly.
7. Low immunity
If a woman undergoing IVF treatment suffers from any type of immune problems such as asthma, allergies, or autoinflammatory disease, it is still difficult to make the IVF successful.
8. High FSH Levels
If a woman has high levels of FSH then this can also cause IVF treatment to fail. Actually, FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) hormones are present in the ovaries of women and testes of men. If the FSH level is high in anyone, the chances of IVF being successful are low.
